I've run them on other kinds of boats and they perform well. If you are wanting all out best performance, look at Yamaha or Merc. The Honda 250D models are rock solid motors for reliability though.

Is your prop hardware tight? Are you running a stainless steel prop? Those motors idle so quietly that any drivetrain chatter seems louder than you could believe.

Have the exhaust valve checked to make sure it isn't seized up. Other than that, they are decent engines.

Not bad engines over all, however, be ready to hunt for some parts in the used market as stuff is starting to be obsoleted as the engine is now 15 years old.

We pre-mix a lot of them by disconnecting the electrical plug-in portion of the pump and capping off the oil inlet. 50:1 and you are good to go. They are much more reliable than they used to be...

Nevermind, I just cracked open the service manual and looked at testing the fuel restriction sensor and see that it is tested with key on.

The primer should have been the first thing to check if cold start is your main issue.............no fuel, no start!

Have the cylinders leak down tested. I've seen quite a few of these 2.5 liters popping head orings lately and it could be something as simple as that. Also, make sure the intake reeds get checked...

My first recommendation is to do a spark and compression check. If the block is good, by all means freshen the carbs up and check timing.

I've got several customers with 200 H.O.'s that are working them in a purely commercial environment with well over 2000 hours and no major work, just an injector here and there.

There is no "N2k EMM Engine Sensor". There is a connection on the wiring harness adjacent to the EMM, starboard side. Four flat with red, blue, white and black wires.

Actually, per the factory service manual, the RPM limit on both of these engines is 6050 rpm. Optimum RPM for each is 5500-5700 at wot per the product update chart.
