replace the foam!
go to this thread and scroll down to my post. if your lids are standard ranger gel-foam-gel, the sanding tool I listed ill make easy work of the job...

on my carpet jobs, I've used the screw and nuts method as well as going back with rivets. IMO, rivets are a much better way. The hinges and seals stay much tighter. The overall appearance is also...

If you are planning on keeping your boat any length of time, stainless hardware is absolutely essential...if you are going to invest your time, money and effort doing the work, do it right!
pop rivet hinges to lid, stainless steel screws for the hinge to the boat...highly recommend the perko locks...
