I def have fire on all 6 cylinders. We tested that the day we mounted the motor. Gotta be fuel related.
Went the other day and after fresh gas and new plugs it ran 54 at 5200rpm. Gotta rebuild fuel pump but beyond that I don’t know what to do. Carb clean?
Could it just be the prop is too deep? I’ve popped the cowel to ensure the carbs are opening all the way up at full throttle. If I advance the throttle the motor obviously revs beyond the 5200 so...
Update: Fresh gas and new plugs had the motor running better... 54.1 mph at 5200rpm still. Going to try a 21p prop I found before buying jackplate.
Agreed!
Both of those things have crossed my mind...The fact that my buddy's rig with a 150 runs about the same...
It should or shouldn't be able to spin the 23? I have a buddy with the same boat but with a 2.5L 150 Mariner with a 23p prop and he turns about 5400 rpm and only runs about 54mph...
I've...
I put new plugs in it tonight, and going to drain all gas and run it again this weekend. I’m going off my analog tack however speed was verifies my GPS. What would contribute to such low RPM?...
1995 ProCraft 180 Pro
1990 2.4L MERC 175
No Jack-plate
23p prop
Light Load
51mph gps @5100 rpm
Motor has sat for a year or so. Do I need to get a jack plate and raise motor to gain some RPM...
P.S. it comes out of the hole great.
Thanks, Pat. I'll get with the mechanic who rigged it for me. I checked the basics and we cranked it and let it run a while however we didn't do any serious diagnostics.
Compression is good 110psi across the board. Would fresh gas and lines make a difference or a carb cleaning? Fuel is about a month old...

It turns out that I am having to repower my Procraft 180 pro. It had an xr4 on it, and within my budget I have found a super clean low hour good compression 1994 model 2.0 black max. It...

We are building the motor...cylinder 2 shot to hell!
Boat needs seats and carpet, transom is solid...definitely a worthy project.
The boat was free to me, I'm def. feeling like its worth repairing.
If it is a melted piston, is it a death sentence?
It had been run about a month ago.
The prop does spin in neutral. I haven’t dropped the lower unit yet.
So here we go. I recently acquired a 95 procraft 180 pro with a 150 xr4 2.4L at no cost to me. I got it cleaned up and ran it some on the hose. Take it to the lake today add gas and proper amount of...
One of my best buds...We are all really proud to see him out there doing what he loves!
