Looks like my throttle cable needs to be replaced on my 2018 521 ( merc 2 stroke). It is connected to a hot foot and I ruled out the hot foot or the linkage at the engine.

I have sea dek and it is holding up great. I wash it with a soft bristle brush and some dawn once a year. It does show dirt but usually it dries up and blows away.

Clean real good with acetone, use etching primer ( since you are at bare metal, prime and paint. Use mercury products and it will look great

Do you feel the plug “click” when closing the valve? It takes a little bit of force to get it to click. I clean and lube my o ring every once in a while
