It just takes some trial and error with the settings and transducer. I primarily cast for crappie and generally run my range at 60', in shallow I have to pull the range back to see my jig.

You'll be fine running the power wire directly to the fuse panel, no need to over complicate it.
I had a LSS 1 on my TM before I got AT 2. About the only time I used it was to find a brush pile or bed I had missed. I'm a crappie fisherman.
I previously had a LSS 2 on my Pro, having two AI 3-1's I installed on in the LSS 2's place. I think I prefer the LSS 2 over the AI 3-1, the image is much brighter.
Do you have a separate 2d transducer running? My Pro running a 3-1 will look like that if I don't stop sonar on the Gen 2 12 that's running a skimmer. The screenshot below is my Pro with the 2d...
