I’ve owned a used 98 186 and a new 04 ranger 518, which was an upgraded 118. The champion is the right choice. Have the transom checked and if a hot foot is installed have the stringers check.

You most likely know to have the transom checked for decay. From my unfortunate experience a couple of years ago with a 186, have a fiberglass repair shop check the stringers too.
