Thanks- I'm always prepared:thumb up2:
Thanks- from what I have searched, the poppet is on the starboard side behind the cover above the tell tale?

Hello All,
First time posting on the Yamaha board, previously had an Optimax and got a lot of help on this board so here it goes..
...
You mentioned 40+ PSI on the fuel rails. PSI on the port side should be 80PSI and fuel side should be 90PSI. Anything less then there is the problem.
Start with the easy stuff first. Lots of good info here:

If all that is OK- it sounds like there is an air leak somewhere in the system. You need...
Check the compressor strainer (usually lower starboard side of block) to see if clogged. Also, sometimes just poking a toothpick in the tell tale hole can free the flow.
Sounds good. I would find the service manual for your motor and check the torque spec for the idler bolt. I checked mine- it shows 16.6 ft lbs. But mine is a 1999.. it could be the same... Maybe Don...
When the motor is running, is the tensioner arm pivoting on the bolt or the metal bushing inside the arm (where the bolt goes through)?
Make sure the idler arm is torqued correctly because its easy to overtighten. I'm not sure what it is for your motor- but from what I recall it was not a lot for mine (inch pounds I believe).
Could be like 100 things- but since you just replaced spark plugs, verify that you have the correct gap for them:

Is there a lot of slop in your remote unit? If its doing it intermittently, it could just be that your just a little off your neutral spot on your remote when you are trying to start..
Which switch on the motor? Is it the one next to where the shift cable connects?
It could just be the primer bulb itself.. Also make sure that it is positioned vertically so the check valve inside the bulb functions correctly.
Are you running Quikleen in the fuel? Mercury programs all their ECMs to detect Quikleen (and only Quikleen- not other snake oils). If the ECM does not detect Quikleen, it will adjust to make the...
Thanks- just meant in general but the part for mine is 852394T5.
I tested mine the other day by pumping compressed air into the air rail, and listening for leaks. On the #6 port I can hear what I...
Don- was meaning to ask you about this..
I noticed on a most of the rails (and mine) there is a lot of corrosion or wear around the #6 socket (the bottom side where it touches the DI) on the port...
Yes sounds like the cable. Make sure the clip on the motor that holds the cables in place is secured. If it comes unhinged, it could prevent you from shifting even if the cables are adjusted...
Has anyone ever replaced these on their Opti? Part number 828694a1:

Reason I ask is because it seems like the port fuel rail,...
They can- just depends on how the compressor broke. The bearing race on the connecting rod broke on mine, so it was still able to move the piston (although not well) enough to limp back. In my case...
Check the 2nd link Bob just posted. Looks like you should be running 87 octane. Not sure if this is your problem, but good place to start.
Congrats well deserved!
DVOM is a digital multi-meter, which you can probably get. I'm guessing its a resistance test, but not sure about the numbers since the manual does not specify. Hopefully someone who knows will chime...
The shift interrupt switch restricts fuel to 3 cylinders when shifting. There may not be a problem with the switch itself, but if your motor is struggling before warmup- the fuel restriction of the...
OK- so this compressor was in that range but it had the white dot on top of the plate. So its in the clear?
