I just recently took off my lower unit to replace the impeller on my 2003 150 Vmax (carbed 2 stroke). After putting it back on I also dropped my lower unit oil and refilled. Upon doing so...

Just bought a 186 in March and same thing for me. Found the plug and it's a tight fit, but popped it in and problem solved.
