Wait time for 175 is down to 2-3 wks. I can wait 2-3 wks for the 175 so I went ahead and got the ball rolling. New Sabre has a Motorguide 70lb TM on it and he offered to switch out my 1 year old 80...

Actually yeah, for about $1100 175 Pro Xs which would be acceptable, be about 4-5 week before motor could delivered

The Javelin R18 with a Johnson 150 would avg 64 normally with full fuel and two fisherman.

I ran a 2000 Javelin Renegade 18 w/ 150 Johnson (bought new 2000) for 17 years. No major problems other than a guy backing into the boat (fibreglass repair) and hitting a rockpile on Kentucky lake...

this one worked for about six or seven years, but yeah they do not have a good rep. I originally bought it on clearance at an Academy Sports for about $150 in around summer of 2009.

Quick charge this morning at autoparts store where I had it load checked and tested. According to the printout it was good, pulled 685 Cranking amps, rated at 675.

I had another thread about battery not holding a charge. I'm curious as to whether it's true that we should not use a sealed maintenance free battery on engines that use a rectifier.

While reading up on some problems I'm having, I ran across a warning (from CDI) about not using a "maintenance free" battery for starting battery on a motor with a rectifier (ex. 2000 Johnson 150)...

Yes, it will charge the batteries.

No, none of those. Right now the only thing attached to the battery is the Pro Mariner starting battery leads. It has dropped to 12.40 Volts from 12.77 in the last 10 hours.

Is there anything on the motor that can drain the battery while all switches and key is off? Because that is what's happening here.

Yeah, that's why I'm installing a battery cutoff today.
