No. I assume I need to remove and test the stats on a pan of boiling water?
Made it back out this morning with the hose disconnected.
Started right up smoked as it usually does, let the boat idle while I parked the truck. It was not smoking as bad as it did in the past....
Went out last Sunday and left the hose unhooked at start-up all through the day. Seemed to run fine, smoked about normal at startup and did not seem as bad from spot to spot.
Heading back out...
From what I've been reading I believe my Thermal Air Valve is the culprit. If so that's a salty little bugger...
Heading back out Sunday and will see if leaving the hose unhooked will help.
Started up with the hose connected, ran down the lake fished for about 2 hours. Before the run back I removed the hose, started right up and did not smoke near as much. Got back to the ramp and...

Glad you're feeling better Don!
Found out the hard way (as usual) about the SCALDING HOT water. I could tell that the stats were working, from a trickle to a hard stream from the tell tail.

Shem says put it in forward gear when reinstalling.

Took the hose off and tried to start at the ramp on the trailer. Tried for about 2 minutes and would not start just sputtered so I put the hose back on and it fired right up? Smoked like a crop...
Thanks for the reply JOE.
Might be a month before I'm back on the water, does either end need plugged or just leave it hanging?
143 huh... good to know!
It was 70+ on Friday so finally got a warm compression results.
Fallowed the directions as Don requested and below are the results:
105 110
108 110
108 110
So I finally got around to doing a cold compression check. Not sure I like the numbers.
PORT STRBRD
113 118
115 119
118 120
Assuming port is left and starboard...

Just curious as to why air in the line would cause the excessive smoking. Or is this the first step to figuring out the root of the problem?
Thanks for the reply Don,
I had an issue last year where the main tank (REMOTE?) ran out of oil and the the top tank ran down to the alarm sounding.
Idled back to the ramp, oil was still up top...
