Not sure what software you referr to that would cause the unit to turn off. Your issue is typically related to poor power/ ground. If you have multiple units in your boat, you can swap them around to...
As far as I know there are no known issues with the latest software for Carbon or AT.
You can find your answer in the transducer overview found in this thread, first post:
Lowrance transducer compability (bbcboards.net)
If you look at the back of your boat, you can see the answer to your question there. Turbulence (or propwash as many call it) can only happen behind or directly to the side of the propeller. The only...
In addition to what Basshopper said, choose PD-WBL as transducer and not HDI or you will get trouble with your sources for structurescan.
Switch to manual mode in such shallow water.
This photo shows an incorrectly mounted transducer:

Lots of ghostlines coming from the signal hitting something.

For power they are the same, for NMEA0183 they are not.
Keep in mind that you should also check the rest of your wiring, connections and fuse. Your new unit has much higher draw than the old unit...
Relocate or adjust your transducer.
Post a few photos of how it is mounted now and you will get more specific feedback.
AT connects to youenjmit using ethernet, regular transducers like AI 3i1, HDI etc connects directly to the unit. In other words, you do not need another unit.
You can use a new Navionics-chip in a Gen 1. But it will be slow, especially when using imagery, and not all features (like shading, Sonarchart Live and auto-routing) will work.
I have used AT on both HDS Live 9 and Elite FS 9. The downsides on the Elite, are the screen (less visible in the sun) and only one ethernetport.
As long as you don`t intend to share AT, you could even add HDS Gen 3 to keep the cost down. The Gen 3 would have to run latest software (18.2). APart from that any HDS Carbon/ Live/ Pro or Elite FS...
Yes it can.
Assuming you look at LiFePo4, you take the number of hours you intend to use the AT between charges, multiply with draw (1,5Ah) and add a 10% safety margin.
Example 1, 10 hour day: 10*1,5*1,1=...
AT and AT2 is compatible with HDS Live, regardless of size of the screen itself. So go ahead.
Check voltage and if that is OK, do a hard reset. If you still have issues, contact seller/ Lowrance.
AI2 is just the second bacth of AI, and no there is no difference.

Carbon was the first dual-channel 2D unit from Lowrance.
I haven’t tried on a Gen 3, but I would expect that as soon as you choose the PD-WBL as transducer, the Gen 3 will treat the TotalScan as an...
Yes. They will also share sonar and mapping if networked with ethernet.
That sounds like a HDS Gen 2 Touch. It will not be ethernet-compatible with any current unit, so you can not share sonar or mapping with a new unit.
The best SideScan-transducer from Lowrance is...
Correct.
Sort of. Back then Eagle was a seperate brand but using much of the same soft- and hardware as Lowrance (and owned by the same company).
+1.
Legacy-mode is caused by something in the ethernet running older software than 18.2 (or the Pro thinking something is running old
software.)
