This is probably my last post on this thread. I just wanted to make sure i closed it with an update. Try as I may, I still can not get the idle 100% correct. I may call Don to see when he can fit it...
Hey guys, just an update. I have the throttle body properly adjusted. It has helped a lot!! At first, I thought it fixed it completely. I took my 21 pitch laser 2 off, and put my 23 Tempest back on....
Mine is bad though. Like to the point that it dies at times. I can live with a little spitting and sputtering.
Would you look at that! .045 wire. I will mic the wire tomorrow, but believe it definitely needs adjusting if the .045 spec is correct. What do y'all think?
IF I need to adjust, I assume I need to...
I believe this is the part number.. it is at the bottom of the page.
90-859494R1 JUNE 2000
I don't think it has ever been perfect, but I don't remember it being this bad. It is not as noticeable with my smaller 21P prop. The bigger 23P Tempset that I put on about a year ago seems to...
I think Don may be on to something. I am going to Lowes now to see if they have the #56 bit. I Found something here that mics under the 1.1mm that the manual calls for, and it tight. So either I...
Your making me want to go get another battery, just to make sure... I guess it would rule it out.
From the manual that I have:
"However, should the throttle plate require adjustment, use the throttle plate stop screw
to set the throttle plate clearance @ 0.045 in. (1.143 mm) using a #56...
I ran a 31 straight off the shelf. Showed 12.4 volts. Cranked strong. Still stumbling.I do feel like it may be voltage related. It is almost too inconsistent to be a particular cylinder... all plugs...
Well, as you could probably guess, the MAP sensor did not seem to help. I ran it some this afternoon. It seems to be about the same.
I noticed something tonight that I have not noticed yet. My...
Hey Don. I checked the air gap tonight. .039 on the crank position sensor. That is on the high side, but it is as close as the bolts will allow. I could do some filing on the holes on the sensor......
I did. Held it to sunlight while doing it too. Looks new to me lol. Really surprised how well the fuel system looks. 470ish hours on the clock.
I pulled the tracker valve today. I did not see any tears or holes. Tried the Gatorade bottle test that I read about.. no bubbles so I put it back together. Attached are pics of it. I expected it to...
Any chance that at idle, it is allowing the tps to move enough on the mounts, to send an inconsistent signal to the PCM? It does move a lot on the fasteners to the block. when moving it on the...
97 Octane?
Thanks all! I may look into replacing the rest of the throttle linkage that you mentioned Don. Why does it need replacing? (out of curiosity)
With my 21P prop, the engine seems to idle a little...
Another thing that I have done, is looking at the linkage. I believe I left part of it out of adjustment when I was replacing the TPS. The butterfly was not resting at a complete close. I adjusted it...
So... I am still hopeful, but getting tired of this endless learning. (and spending) I am kicking around the idea of taking it to someone. May take it to Don. The 5 hour drive seems small in...
That is what they showed me. The stored codes. No current ones. I was thinking there was a deeper diagnostics that could be ran, to test each sensor.. I thought I read that somewhere, but maybe not.
I agree that it may just be that way, but it shouldn't be.
A computer controlled engine should be smooth, or at least consistent. Or at least that is my thinking. I may not find it, and I may...
I called a couple of local places. Both told me around $50 to run diagnostics. I took it to one today, and they said no current codes. I had one alarm that was an overheat. 164 degrees I think. I...
A little over 5 hours..
I agree 100% Don! And have no problem doing that. What I don't want to do is pay someone $100 an hour to guess, and buy parts. I figure I can do that free of labor:roll: I respect the knowledge and...
Agreed. I may see about a road trip!
