Bill is this how you would recommend integrating the variable speed controller?

I tinkered with the footpedal variable speed slide & fried one of the pressure-bottom switches in the footpedal circuit board.

When connecting the Rocker Foot Switch between the motor and the power....where is it recommended to connect the variable speed mechanism?
--I plan to put the speed control nob next to my trim...

I have an old Minn Kota Autopilot 865 trolling motor with a micro touch trolling motor pedal for steering.
I am tinkering...

Idle after 3 minute bounces from 12.0 to 12.8

Battery carged and waited 24 hour.
Battery at 12.75v
Hook motor to battery 12.49v
2 wires on small plug (after unplugging) 12.66
Battery with small plug unplugged 12.66
Idle 3 minute bounces...

Voltmeter on battery matches Vessel View readings pre & post charge.

I took boat out yesterday, when running across water Vessel View shows voltage at 12.5 at 2500 rpm.
That's the battery voltage while running.

Is my alternator bad?

Voltmeter reads:
12.41 at battery terminals without motor
12.22 when hooked motor onto battery
12.16 at motor by starter
12.12 at alternator post
Unhook motor and batter...

This unit does not have remote control or spot lock....thise can be purchased as add-ons
