My front lights quit working a while back and I found that a wire had pulled out of the connector. I doubt that you have a wiring issue because both lights would be out.

I have that rod and use it for 1/2 and 3/4 scrongers and 4-5 inch paddle tail swimbaits open hook style. Works well for those techniques even in heavy current.
