How do you know that the salvania spraying is what killed the fish?
I run a 1989 115. I'm guessing with 3000Hrs on it. Absolutely bullet proof motor with proper maintenance. Original power head. All I do to it, is spark plugs, lower unit oil, water pump every two...
I fish Toledo Bend often and the water there can get pretty clear in the summer months. I like using braid when fishing in heavy cover or deep offshore structure. I don't think it matters much in...

Any area of the lake in particular? I know of a couple down south by Pirates Cove
I am not an expert but I dont think a regulator wonldnt cause those type problems
. I suspect a bad stator.
Any Idea how to test a stator on a 1990 115?
How exactly do I check for spark on my motor. Do I remove a spark and crank engine and look at plug for spark. Is it that simple?
Look up in the top of this page in the Sticky how to Links. You will find some "How Too" links.
Bamaman, You are correct about a bullet proof motor. I havbe done nothing but change water pumps. plugs, and put fuel. It just runs. This is the first real problem I am unable to diagnose.
Thanks. I have checked the ground connections I can find. They all are tight with no corrosion. I am suspecting the CDI ignition pack, but dont want to spend that much money not knowing
I have a 1990 115 Yamaha motor that is used often and runs great 95% of the time. But the other 5% it quits for some mysterious reason. Sometimes while idling, running wide open, or attempting to...
@Hawgherder. I went to the ebasicpower.com site. Lots of great info but I didnt see any test procedures for stator or rectifier systems.
If I don't measure 14VDC on the battery does this mean the rectifier/voltage regulator is bad or could the stator be part of the problem as well.?
Thanks for the tips. I have a DVA meter and will check it later this weekend.
I have a problem with my 1988 Yamaha 115 not keeping the cranking battery charged. It runs fine and cranks up everytime.
How can I determine if the stator or the rectifier is the problem?
Thanks
Where exactly is this area? The last time the water was high enough to get a boat into the lower end of east grand lake I was amazed at how much it had filled in with silt. Schwing Chute and lower...
I recently installed a new prop on my Yamaha 115. When running on step at about 5000 RPM I have 20lbs of water pressure. When I make a left turn no change in pressure, but when I make a right turn my...
I have a 1988 Yamaha 115. Not sure how many hours it has, but its alot. I use my boat often. Nothing done to it but water pumps, plugs, poppet valves, thermostats. I would guess 2000 hours. I put a...
Those are easy to change. Order a seal kit and spanner tool online. You will
also need 2 quarts of hydraulic fluid. Follow instructions in kit. I replaced mine in about 2 hours including...
What part of the system is leaking? The cylinder by engine or steering helm. I replaced my seals on the cylinder next to the engine. Not difficult No experience with the steering helm seal.
I have a 1989 115. Not sure how may total hours, but its alot. Original Powerhead.
Regular maintanence only. Runs like a scalded dog. I would guess close to 2000 hours.
The problem was with my gauge. I left it connected during some cold weather and the line froze which caused some erratic readings. Changed my gauge and all worked as it should. I now disconnect my...
My motor starts fine, will get up on plane fine and run WFO for 3 or 4 miles and then starts losing power like it starving for fuel. Sometimes it will pick back up on its own, other times it will...
