What kind of obstruction do I look for?

My spot lock keeps disengaging with foot pedal and remote. Wondering if anyone else had this happen?

I was watching flw tournament and saw several guys grab their line and pull fish up when they were landing fish. I was always told not to grab line. What's up with that?
