It took me about an hour with my fat fingers, it looked like the valve was the newer mushroom style. luckly the gasket stayed in place and did not tear.

would like to thank everyone for the great info, I was experiencing low water pressure on my 07 225. removed the poppet valve and there was some large grains of sand keeping it open. not the easiest...
