You can just unhook the shift switch. I would get the fuel injectors serviced first, this is usually the root of most of the problems on these engines.

Ordered one of each bearing today, will mic them and see how much we can grind the crankshaft. It is not bad the bearings were still in it when I tore to down.
I need to have the crankshaft ground but do not know what size bearings I can get from Yamaha. All they list is colors.
Has anyone ever used an HPDI block with ox66 fuel injection? Looks like everything will work just have to plug up injector holes in head. Change the exhaust cover and machine out the o2 sensor hole.
