I much prefer casting gear, and will definitely try your suggestions on my 742c. I avoid spinning gear like the plague. I've even looked at ways to throw a dropshot on casting gear.

Congrats! I know it's above budget at 299$, but the Orochi XX Whipsnake is an amazing dropshot/finesse rod. Second, closer to 200 at 219$, would be the St. Croix Avid X 6'9"ML or 7'0"ML.
