My son's boat has been sitting for 6 months for compressor repair
no more than a couple weeks. look for a certified tech that will take apt. jet a wanted me to leave my etech for 4 months just to get the three year service, i told them they were crazy. found another tech 20 miles away that did the apt and had the boat 2 days.
I've not had any repairs other than normal maintenance. I always make an appointment and take my boat up to Sherm's. I wait on it while the work is done.
I never take my motor for service until they have the parts (if parts are needed) on hand. My dealer does the service while I wait, but even if they didn't, I would not take my boat there until they were actually scheduled to work on it. I feel very sorry/sympathetic for boat owners who can't develop that kind of relationship with a servicing dealer. If I have a problem or just want an upgrade on my boat, I want it done asap (as I'm sure most do). If for some reason my dealer can't get the part, I'll get it, schedule my service, and take the part to them along with the boat.
Terry, that is unforgivable!!! I'd go get it and find another shop with a good reputation!
I make an appointment, take the boat in, wait for it and tow it home. Mercury Marine Master Mechanic, Lee Sanderson...:bows:
Merc compressors were out of stock for awhile. Still need to find a better dealer.
I would pick it up till the part comes in. Hopefully that dealer will work with u.
Blew mine up at winterization time for play boats was told 3-4 months for a new power head... Traded up took 30 minutes with bank and 30 minutes at dealer. Haha
3 days to 1 week... max
Way, way too long, get another dealer. Replacing a air compressor is a simple deal.
If it were me I'd be at his front door until he got tired of seeing me. I just talked to my son. He's ditching the Opti and going to go with a 250 XB. I told him to go get his boat months ago but he and the mechanic are supposedly friends. I told him you have to watch your friends, sometime they are the ones pull crap and think it's okay. I have a feeling that's what's going on here.
I make my appointment and Knox Marine takes it in and starts on. I have never had to leave boat overnight.
I think they had some type of hold on Merc compressors. They were talking about it on the Merc board not long ago.....like mentioned, store boat at house until part comes in.
If compressors are on back order for 6 months how many of these darn things are going out? Sounds like a major issue.
ZERO...I have a Yamaha 4 stroke...
I believe I read they were trying to tweak the manufacture of the compressor during that back order to take them from acceptable reliability to extremely reliable.
Around Lake Sam Rayburn, if you didnt buy your boat from them they will tell you to comeback and three weeks they are so busy that can't get to it right now. I take mine to a Merc dealer at Toledo Bend, they don't see boats only Merc dealer.
I it took me two of these 3 week deals before I caught on.
