Garmin striker 7cv wont stay powered on

Just installed a new 7cv and it wont stay powered up with the transducer cable plugged in. If i unplug it the screen powers up normally and i can get into settings and and what not but once i plug the transducer in it kills it. I checked the power and ground with a test light and a multimeter and powered the unit with a battery charger to eliminate any boat wiring issues. Im guessing the screen or the transducer is junk. Anyone deal with this kind of problem?
