Replacing my old 24V trolling motor with the new 24V Ultrex. The Ultrex recommends a 60 Amp Breaker. The one in my boat is only 40Amp.
I'm assuming I will need to update this to 40Amps. Is there a direct replacement for the ones I have to 60 Amp or do I need to get a completely new setup?
This is a 95 Champion 181. Im sure its all original wiring. Should I just replace the wires and everything?

Should work if the mounting holes line up, make sure the wire size is correct going forward.

You might have to change your wiring if you change the breaker size. The breaker is to protect the wiring. If its too big for your wire gauge then you’re at risk for a fire.
I’m not an ultrex specialist but you might want to use a breaker/switch combo or a breaker and a switch so you can turn off the power to the ultrex when not in use

You cant get a good answer to your questions without knowing your wire size.
8 gauge is rated for 55, 6 gauge for 75 amps. See what size wire you have.. If I had 8, I would probably try a cheap 50 amp inline fuse as u unplug, before rewiring, I suspect motor would run fine.

Good advice. Blue Sea has a lot of resources on their website. They even have a phone app circuit calculator. Works great. I ran your deal through the calculator and was surprised to see that the 8 gauge recommended by minn kota was correct. I would have thought that you would have needed 6 gauge. But because they allow a 5% voltage drop you can use the smaller wire.Quote:

It looks like the medium duty push button would fit as a replacement for your 40 amp breaker. The mounting holes are on 40 mm centers which is the same as my factory 40 amp push button breakers.
If I was doing it, I would opt for the 187 series 60 amp panel mount breaker switch for a nice clean look and the ability to shut it off in the battery compartment. Here’s a pic of the 30 amp 187 series that I installed for my house battery circuit.
