2001 200 hp EFI tack just quit working

Motor is 2001 Merc 200EFI on 2001 Ranger boat. My tack just quit working the last time out. It is not the gauge as it moves when key is turned off. I was just running along and wam it just dropped to zero and stays there now. What can I start to look for that could be my problem?

have you inspected your VOLTAGE REGULATORS (under the coil plate) for any signs of burnt spots, browned/blackened/burnt connectors, etc?

If any of the above Regulator problems are noted: REPLACE both voltage regulators, and any damaged bullet connectors. Also wise to test and visually inspect the stator (for any discolored, burnt, or melted "bobbins"). (yes I stole the quote from Don)

    OK
This is what I found I believe but if these are my voltage reg's they are not under coil packs but on side of block. I see something I believe that looks burnt at a connector. Is this what I am looking for as it is the regulator that has grey wire connected to grey feed wire to tack I guess because the other reg has grey wire blocked off.

Photo 2 is what I refer to as what I believe as being burnt correct ?

    Definitely could be burnt.

ALWAYS wise to provide serial number when requesting info or assistance- it is important that we be able to accurately ascertain precisely which model you're working with.

Try moving the GRAY wire to the OTHER voltage regulator. It "can" drive from either regulator.

IF the tach again works- REPLACE BOTH REGULATORS, and any damaged connectors.

Be sure to provide that serial number when you contact for parts.

Sherm @ Sherm's Marine (or we) would be more than happy to assist you with a pair of regulators, and (male or female) bullet connectors that you require.

Email or Phone are the BEST means of contacting the Parts Department(s).

Not that difficult, Scott.... hardest part is that a special crimping tool is required (most Mercury Dealers should have one... may also find that many auto shops do as well).
