    99 mercury optimax 200 hp good or bad

    i bought a 99 sprint with 99 200 hpmercury optimax anyoneknow about these motors good bad or ugly?

    If it's still running, then it's a good one. Like anything else, keep up the maintenance and it'll last a long time. Also, use the fuel stabilizer and carbon guard all the time.

    Suggest you provide the engine SERIAL NUMBER... and pending that- HAVE THE ENGINE CHECKED OUT before you consider purchasing, including (at least):

    -Compression Test (Better yet- a leakdown test)
    -Computer Diagnostic Printouts of Run History and Fault Counters/Seconds
    -Gearcase Check (propshaft runout, fluid quality, shift quality)
    -Maintenance History (and current NEEDS review)
    -Test run (on the water) to confirm proper operation
