    Spark Plugs for 300XS / Spare parts list

    I was looking for a set of NGK IZFR7M spark plugs for my 300XS. Mercury parts express list them for around $23.00 ea. I found they cross referenced to an Autolite XPS 5224 sold at Auto Zone for $6.95 ea. Question I have is this plug an equal to the NGK and will work on this motor.

    After my motor quit on me and left me stranded last week, I'm trying to come up with a spare parts list that I could store in my boat of parts that I could replace on the water that in essence could get me back to the ramp if this were to happen again. I haven't seen any one put out a list so that's why I'm asking. So far I have the following:

    Spark Plugs, Coil, Coil wiring harness, Spare Fuses, Alternator belt, Water Pump impeller and gaskets, Prop hub and spare nut, Fuel filter and bulb, Spare wire ties, clamps, tape, connectors, etc. Anything else that could that could help turn a bad day into a better day.

    DO NOT utilize any spark plug OTHER than the NGK (IZFR7M) is this engine.

    Great list you've made up

    Perhaps add a couple of trim relays to that list (they also double as the MPR or Main Power Relay).

    What about a neutural shift switch, when it goes bad the motor goes into guardian mode thinking it is in neutural instead of forward, very frustrating. New one on the way.
    Other than this, your list is very extensive and could be a problem changing some of the parts while on the water (hard to reach areas).

    sparkplugs.com has the NGK IZFR7M for $12.30. This is where I get my QL77PP champion plugs for my 300X. I usually get them for under $7 versus $20+ at the dealer.

    Neutral switch is definitely something to consider.... but it's going to be a REAL pain to change on the water.

    I'd probably leave that one "on the shelf".
