Question Lowrance HDS water temperature reading options

I have several HDS units, but will focus on the HDS 10 Gen 2 for this question, should the model make a difference. I have the HDS 10 Gen 2 attached to an LSS-1 unit with the LSS-1 transducer on the jackplate. I was considering an inside-hull installation of the 2D transducer. I know that the display unit (HDS 10 in this case) typically gets temperature data from the 2D transducer. Of course, that doesn't work out too well if the 2D transducer is in the bilge.

I did a search for each instance of "temperature" in the HDS 10 owners manual. None of them discussed how to select the source of temperature data. I also checked the LSS1 owners manual and found nothing. That's not very good documentation in my opinion.

I recall reading some discussion of this topic recently, but have been unable to find the thread - "search" is a bit crude for narrowing it down well enough to actually find it. So, here are my questions for those of you who know the ins and outs of the HDS products:

Does the LSS1 transducer have temperature sensing capability? If so, how do I select that source for the temperature display?

    Thanks in advance!

This comes up often but to be honest my 2D temp in bilge is probably more accurate than my troll MK Univeral tranny, just slightly slower to respond. LSS also has temp - you just tell the unit what is the data source to be used. Look to where you edit "overlay data".

    Several options for temperature.
    1. You can select the temp sensor in your SS transducer.
    2. You can get a 2D transducer for shoot thru mount that has a remote temp sensor (PDRT-WBL)
    3. Set up a nmea network and add a network temp sensor.
    4. You can also use a stand alone temp sensor TS-1BL which plugs in between your 2D transducer and the unit, it would bypass the temp sensor in the transducer if equipped.

Thanks, Mark! You have confirmed what I wanted to know. I had also been looking at the PDRT-WBL and TS-1BL should they have been needed. Since you and Quantum confirmed I can get temperature from the LSS, I can just go that route and not need extra hardware. My most likely solution is to get the PDRT-WBL since I get a puck that way, and those are easier to epoxy into the hull than the skimmer style.

mark, i have the same problem with a hds 5 & 7 with the temp overlay. however my overlay data doesnt show the lss as a source option. i remember reading a post about the yellow wire and temp but cant find it now. everthing else works fine ( downscan/structure scan/ sonar, depths speeds, waypoint sharing etc. i tried switching from global to local in the network setting without any change.
