HDS 8 GEN 2 Startup sequence & NO SOURCE

Yesterday I had a problem with the Structure component, getting a NO SOURCE error. I had to soft reset, shutdown and restore defaults before the function operated properly. I have all wiring per Lowrance instructions and the yellow wire to a separate accessory switch. Everything worked fine my last few trips.

When the day began I started up the bow unit first, followed by the console unit (both HDS 8 Gen2 networked with ethernet). Then I turned on accessory switch for the LSS. All this while idling. Placed bow unit on STANDBY and began idling out from the ramp. Sonar worked fine. Paged over to Structure and all I get is a NO SOURCE error. Tried bow machine and got the same error.

I'm very frustrated by this error as I felt cleanly rewiring everything solved my problems. Also had the dimming problems so many have cited here throughout the day.

    So my question is:
Is there a start up sequence that I should follow that will minimize the machines from getting confused (or whatever is happening)? OR should sequence not matter at all?

    Thanks

The sequence shouldn't matter at all, the power going to your LSS unit will power up whether you flip the switch before or after you turn your HDS unit on bud. Make sure that you have good and tight connections for both sonar, and power to the LSS box as that will result in the No Source error on the structure page also bud. You may also want to check to make sure that you have a good connection to the switch too bud.

After 45 minutes and with my dicking around with resets, restores and shutdowns, the Structure scan began working again.

not sure if your issue was the same as mine.. but read this:

Welcome to Hightech Fishing with Doctor Sonar - "Doc" Bruce Samson

Next time ( if it happens again ) turn off AUTO and go manual for a few minutes... Once it starts working again, you can flip it back to AUTO.
