Can't help you, but you're lucky to have a wife that likes to fish. Mine doesn't have the patience for fishing.

    Good luck!!

Re: Turkey Creek, Wisner LA (fishin couillon)

Well..................hummmmmm I guess I will just have to figure it out myself. My podna went about a month ago and caught his limit with every fish being over 2lbs! I cant wait to give it a try!!!!! I know that it is a 3000 ac. resivior. I also know that half of it is flooded timber/swamp. I think the fish will be in spawn mode because the average depth is like 4 ft and this warm weather this week might move them up.........I am going in with a lizard, jig, and rouge!
ill tie the wife on a spinnerbait and hope she doent get hung up every cast!

Re: Turkey Creek, Wisner LA (fishnhunt)

I am not an expert on Turkey Creek and was hoping one of the guys from the Monroe area would chime in on this. You are right about the reservoir. It has some big fish in it. You actually might be doing your wife a great favor by putting a SB on for her. That was the bait of choice when I fished it this time of year. The fish spawn in the middle of the lake there on leaning cypress and and the top of underwater stumps so don't beat the bank for the best fishing. Especially look for the leaning "live" cypresses with the green limbs in the water (at least in my experience). The rogue will also catch'em there as will the jig. My advice is get in the timber, put the trolling motor down and go until you get bit. The best day I ever had on the lake, we caught all of our fish in a very small area. If you got out of that area just a little bit, you couldn't get a bite. So when you catch one, work the area thoroughly.

If you look on one of the aerial maps on line, you will see that there are some "open" areas in the upper end of the lake among the timber. Generally these will hold fish. This is usually where the duck blinds are. Fish the edges of the live timber as well as the underwater stumps you will find in these areas. Wish I could give you a specific place-but just keep the TM going until you catch one and then slow down. This time of year it is not uncommon to take 25 lbs. to win a tourney there. It is a beautiful lake-enjoy!

NO! There may be boat roads in the lake, but if there is I don't know about them. I have seen the locals run the edge of the lake (in jon boats), but it is idle for me. You will definitely use your TM more than the outboard. That is why I suggest just putting the TM down and going fishing, unless you can see on the satellite photo where one of the openings in the timber is and idle to one of them to start fishing.

Thanks, dont feel like replacing a L/U!!!!!!
I looked at a satillite image. My friend said that the launch was off the bridge (south) part of the lake. that looks like a LONGGGGGGGGGGGG way to idle to be able to get to the North end where all the trees are.......Is there another landing you know of??

Re: Turkey Creek, Wisner LA (fishnhunt)

Go just east of the Bridge take a left on Batey Rd, Then take the first right "Willie Herron Rd." then the road will make a sharp left turn on Blue Roberts Rd, go straight to a 3 way stop. Go straight and follow road till the end which is Tom Kings Ramp. You will be in the woods then. Put down the TM and start there. Many tx are won in sight of the ramp. Make sure to GPS the ramp. It's very easy to get turned around. Black and Blue or Black and red jigs. Watermelon red brush hogs, Rouges and spinnerbaits. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Re: Turkey Creek, Wisner LA (fishnhunt)

Competed on it a few times...huge bass weighed...6-8 pounds in the spring.
The place frustrated me a ton until last year...now, "not so much"...
troll and be sneaky cause its shallow and full of wood...
no patterns to me...just hit all the wood and roots you can...
jerk and buzz early then get on the bottom...
generally best stringers "go right" from the "King" launch.
    Post your results! Good luck...
(Never had a limit there but am weighing 3-4 now so I need help too)

Its best to stay on the North end. The South end is shallow and you have to know the channel to get around.

Re: Turkey Creek, Wisner LA (TZX190)

Thanks guys for helping him out. I knew some of you knew about the lake. One of the local names for that area (King's ramp) is King's Dump. Good advice. If you hit the lake on a good day-you will never forget it. One more little note-the best day I ever had on the lake I went with a friend of mine (16-17 yrs. ago) whose daddy has caught a lot of fish and some really good fish there over the years. We went to an area they had been catching them up to 7 lbs. I was catching more than my friend, but he was catching a lot better average size fish than I was. I started out catching them on a rogue, but switched to a SB. We were fishing the same color/size of SB but his had an Uncle Josh white strip as a trailer. His fish were noticeably larger than the ones I was catching so I put on a trailer as well and I started catching better fish as well. Don't know if it will make a difference, but if you aren't catching good fish there, don't hesitate to try it. Best of luck.

Tom Kings ramp is easy to find and is the way to go. Something else to keep in mind, if we have any rain, the water south of that ramp can get pretty muddy, but north will be much clearer. Spinnerbaits, jigs, brush hogs always been good for me.

    Good luck!

It is best to stay away from turkey creek as there are no fish left in the lake.
