Humminbird 858 hd di vs. 859 hd di

I have been planning on putting a 858 on the front of my boat and linking it to my 998 at the console. I just came across the 859 while looking around and was wondering what the difference was in the two units. The 859 is considerably cheaper. May be a stupid question but could someone please explain this to me. Thanks

The difference between them is the new 859 has a second processor which aids in quicker startup and charting. As for the reason for the units being lower priced than the 858, I honestly don't know. Our rep just told us that the MAP on these units would be considerably lower than the last generation of units. I would imagine it has something to do with the manufacturing process, but don't quote me on that.

Isn't the 859 Internal antenna & the 858 External causing a price drop

I honestly keep forgetting that the internal antenna is a new addition to the larger units. So used to having the external on almost all Humminbird units, I apologize for the confusion. DonnieG is correct though, they did switch from external to internal antennas, but if you are wanting an external antenna the hookup is still on the back of the unit. They just made them optional instead of standard.

Will the old external antenna work with the new units or do we need to buy a new one if we want it?

The AS-GR16, AS-GR50, and the AS-GRP will all work with this unit, so if its the external antenna you want to hook up you should be good.

So the 859 should be fine than? I was just a little skeptical because I hadn't heard of anyone using it. Does the internal antennae pick up as good as an external.

They haven't been available until now so you wouldn't have heard of anyone using it.

I would imagine that the internal antenna is just as accurate as the internal antennas on current models. I wouldn't be able to say with confidence how accurate without seeing it firsthand though.

The price difference even on sale/clearance is $120 cheaper. I am sending my just ordered 858c HD Di back and getting the 859 unless there is some big difference.

Guess not as there is a 15% restocking fee at factoryoutletstore.com. When I ordered two weeks ago they indicated the unit was in stock. Just got shipping info today. Obviously it wasn't in stock or they are really slow. Never ordering from them again.

Humminbird Internal Receivers are the same as external AS-GPR... Only thing that could effect it is mounting location.
