I really have no clue how much gas I burn, mileage wise. But I do know my ProXs seems very stingy on fuel, as long as you keep your foot out of it. I guarantee it will be way better than an XB and you can use regular gas in it.

I had an XB and it was terrible on gas. I got an XS 250 and it seems to get twice the mileage, I don't have the numbers, but it is a lot better on gas.

If your buddy ( i wont mention names) drives a black gambler, it dosen't matter what motor he has, he is going to burn a tank of gas.

Actually Sterling its not that buddy. He fishes in my club and got a smoking fast BassCat that runs like a scalded dawg, but he hates burning the gas up like its water and he can't make long runs without thinking he is going to make it back or not. He just wants to justify paying for a newer motor...

My 225 gets 5.7 mpg at 4500 rpm, a 250 would be the same. Don't know about wot, certainly a lot less.

    55-65mph uses very little gas.

You will never get the money back for a new motor, just from the gas savings.
I think you would have to go through roughly 11000-12000 gallons of fuel to make up the amount of money he would be upside down on getting a new motor.

I have a 300xs and the last time I checked, I think I was getting 5 - 5.5 mpg running in the 5000 rpm range.

I've made some 100 mile runs in my Puma FTD w 250 pro XS and usually get between 3.25-3.50 mpg running flat out most of the way

good to know as I have the same boat. The motor is a beast at that speed but can drink the gas when flatout. Course thats if I have no coil issues again although I now have the new coils

I think his main concern is not enough fuel capacity, not fuel savings. Sounds like he is trying to double how long he can run without filling up.

Re: How much gas you burn with 250 pro xs (09Z7SC)

It takes gas to make hp. At wot the difference in the two motors is not enough to warrant to a new motor.

Best way to save gas is buy an Allison, comp hull bullet, or stroker.

I've run a 250xb and I am running a pro xs. The xb used half again as much gas but is even stronger than a pro xs.

Re: How much gas you burn with 250 pro xs (brad webb)

Last long run I made on the Mississippi and fishing around the lake and getting back. Set GPS Before I left went 224 miles in one day and burned 68 gallons gas. Avg. speed 64 mph. That's misleading because I was running flat out most of the day (78-81) but barge traffic, takeoff, stopping, etc is factored in too.
