Black lowers are USUALLY fleetmasters, or the cheap japanese made ones, the silver one with no nose cone/low water pickup is a torquemaster rated for around 80-85mph, and the silver with the low water pickup is a sportmaster for higher speed 90+. They all come with variuos different gear ratios. Someone else can chime in with that.
The torquemaster case has been black for a number of years now, they just went back to silver this year. I think the last time they were silver was back in the 250XB days...not sure?
You have a torquemaster case
My 2012 is black with a torque master.
I don't think the silver paint on the lower units of the newer engines means anything. They just happen to be silver.

Of course I talk to myself...sometimes I need expert advice.
3L 225 and 250 ProXS models are now available with two different gearcases, the Verado-Style (ServiceMaster) and the Torquemaster.
Torquemaster gearcases are now painted BMW Silver, as part of the new graphics package.
The Torquemaster HAS been available (since the early 2000's) in silver paint, under the racing line... they've simply discontinued the "black" case and replaced it with one painted silver.
Just built one up for a customer yesterday.... even the bare case now comes "BMW Silver".![]()
Are they painting the sportmster now also or just the T-master ??
Just the Torquemaster..... the Sportmaster is a bare-aluminum (brushed) case.![]()
For what it is worth I like the new color scheme. My friend has it on his new Phoenix and it looks sharp.
I have a 2006 225 Pro XS. I do not know cases all that well. Can anybody do an ID on mine. If it is one of the mentioned "Fleetmasters" are there any inherent flaws or problems?
Thanks.

Thanks for all the comments. I wasnt sure if they had put some heavy duty parts in there or if it was just for looks but i like the hell out of it. Im ready to break her in and see what it will do on my z20. Im sure its better than the etec that was on it
