system check gage for a new etec?

I just realized there is no system check gage on my boat...it's got a new 225ho on it. Does BRP still use this? I'm pretty sure it was required for my ficht motor.

Yes they still use it, either in the 4 LED version or the 4 LED version built into the tach.

To be covered under warranty, a BRP engine 40hp and up, has to have a audible alarm and a visual display of the warning system. That means a working buzzer and either a SystemCheck gauge or tach, an I-Command display gauge, or an ICON analog-digital gauge.

Do you have any gauges or warning systems at all on your boat? If not, who did the rigging as both you and the dealer had to sign the Pre-delivery form stating that everything was done per factory specs?

If you are unsure, get with your dealer then call Evinrude customer service to make sure the dealer actually registered your motor for warranty and that the required warning systems are operational.

It came from stratos with two multi-function, stratos branded gages. Neither of them does what my old one used to do....the light show and a beep when the key is turned to the run position. One gage, the one with the tach has a little LCD display at the bottom. Does this aound like it could be the system check? I'm gonna call my dealer tomorrow....

Yes that is more than likely the system check tach.

It would have been beneficial to have all that information from your second post included in your first post.

Dealer says everything is provided via the tach gage. He said it's not supposed to beep like my old gage did. It still seems goofy to me...definately nothing happening when I turn the key to on. Is there a way to check to see if it's working? Maybe I can trigger a low oil alarm???

He is wrong. The alarm will sound when the key is turned to on. The LED's will cycle through the self test. The alarm will sound everytime the key is turned to the on position.

OK...so my dealer told me that along with my owners manual, I should've gotten a DVD that explains the guage from Stratos. I didn't recieve said DVD but Stratos is sending it to me. Stratos did send a PDF to my dealer who then fowarded it to me...a 58 page PDF concerning the Beede guage and it looks like the gage will show various engine codes and whatnot. Im hoping that the DVD is more user-frendly than the manual. The gage is definately connected to the motor via N2K, I'm not sure if its connected in any other way. My dealer did say that becuase of the style of the guage, there is no horn connected to it. I never expected that a non-BRP guage might have been the "system check" guage...I had scrolled through the LCD display before my initial post and saw nothing but generic info. So assuming that all is good (warranty-wise) with thge guage, my next mission will be to see if there is any way to tie a horn into the circuit. Maybe I'll just add a real 4-light system check guage and horn...is it plug and play?

To comply with Evinrude warranty requirements there has to be both a visual and an aural alarm indications if a malfunction occurs such as overheat, lack of oil, sensor problems, etc.

Some gauges contain their own buzzer. If your dealer does not know, contact Stratos or look up in their literature if the gauge contains the warning buzzer or if it should be a separate item.

So I called the dealership and had them contact Stratos. It appears Stratos contracted with BRP to use this (Beede gauge w/o buzzer) set-up. However, they did send a system check gauge to me at no cost to me. The buzzer and the 8=pin plug were already in the harness. I've installed the gauge and all is good.
