FICHT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS listed serial #s

    Its on a 1997 Ficht. 1997 Johnson Ficht 150 HP ser# 04316044
Sometimes the trim doesn't work. . Most of the times this happens, is when the boat is on the trailer and I'm stowing the engine on the transom saver.

Sometimes, when I check with my electronics, my voltage is below 12 volts when I'm running down the lake.

Sometimes the horn sounds very soft and weak. I've tried a few new ones.

    Engine always runs fine.

    Any help is appreciated.

These Mods are going to want the model # and serial # if you have them.

Make sure you don't have wing nuts on the cranking battery and everything is clean and tight. Check your grounds on the motor and make sure they are clean and tight. Check the connections on the PDP and make sure they all look good. Inspect for any broken lans on the card to cause an intermittent connection.

Stupid question. What's a PDP? For that matter what's a "broken lans "?

PDP is the power distribution panel all things electrical go through it. A lan is the silver line in circuit boards. Also known as a trace. PDP's of that vintage are known to have broken "lans" and a drop or two of solder will make the circuit good again.

I recently learned the value of having good battery cables on these also. Cost me less than 30.00 to fix a major pain. Engine didnt crank well. Seems there could be the same issue if there is a voltage drop. Took me very little time to repair.

When I had trim problems that was my problem. Where the trim plugs into the PDP one of the male post where the plug makes a male/female connection was loose. I sent my PDP to DFI Technologies and they refurbuished it for a fraction of what a new one cost.

If you do not know what the PDP looks like or where it is located go to the evinrude web site where you buy parts for motors. Enter your model number and you can choose a picture that shows all eletrical componets.

Re: FICHT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS listed serial #s (ficht5)

Check the relays, wiring, switches, and PDP for your trim problem. The PDP could also affect your voltage but its more likely the regulator/rectifier that is faulty. You would have to test and troubleshoot the items per the factory service manual.

If you had to buy new items, they would cost much more than the motor is worth. Try http://www.dfitechnologies.com
