Need help! Bulb won't pump up!

    Model # is E200DPLSO
    Serial# is 05093045

    2005 200 Etec

Other day on the lake, boat would plane out then lose power & die like it was out of gas (3/4 full tank). Pumped the bulb, which never got hard, starts back up and runs like a scalded dog. Fish for a couple of hours, start it up and I have the same problem again.

Today, I replaced the bulb. The new one won't get firm either. The arrow is going the correct direction. I'm convinced now that the old one was O.K. I need ideas on how to fix the problem.

I'm also staring at that fuel filter. It appears that the fuel runs into the top of the canister then back out. If I want to replace the filter - does the canister portion twist off like an oil filter or do you replace the entire unit?

Could my problem be lift pump? Kinked hose?

    All help is greatly appreciated!

Yes the filter on the water separator spins off like an oil filter. Did you use a BRP primer bulb 3/8" id? Could be a lift pump, do you hear the pump run when you turn the key on?

Yes to both questions. lift pump runs a few seconds then shuts off.

I'm worried that I'm going to break the housing or mounts. Do you use a filter or strap wrench for this? It really flexes by hand. Reverse threads?

When you prime the bulb how many pumps does it take?

Tried again. This time, I vented the fill cap and nothing. Then I changed the bulb attitude to vertical - rock hard!

I still think there may be a problem.

Does this happen at any other RPM or only when planning?

Reason I ask is, if you have a wire harness chafe your engine could shut down and not set any codes, look at the yellow wire from the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS) at the lower starter bracket, if it touches the bracket it will wear into it and the motor may run fine and then shut down.
