    Motorguide comes on by itself.

I was going down the lake today and my my motorguide digital tour edition with sonar just came on by itself. I stopped and hit pedal switch and it stopped. What could cause that it happened several times today. Ron

Probably water in the lower unit. Take one bolt out and see if it's wet or shows that it has been wet

Yes sir, I understand it is in the lower unit, the question I'm asking is "where" in the lower unit. the older style had it underneath the center section, the new style has it in the nosecone of the lower unit. To possibly help, I would like to know which style we're talking about. thanks

Mr. Jones the transducer is in the middle of the head. Best part is I have never used it. Ron

On that style, it is more susceptible for water leakage through the transducer cable. If that is the problem, probably the Module and possibly the brush holder is also gone from the water damage. You can change the center section since you don't use the transducer and replace the bad parts, but would probably be more cost effective to replace the lower unit. Call me if I can help.

Thanks Mr. Jones. I tore the troll motor apart and red guck and water came running out. It was a mess, i blew it out with air and used armature cleaner to clean up armature and housing. I sanded the commentator and put her back together she runs so smooth. We will see what happens. Thanks for your help sir and if this baby dont make it I will be calling you. Ron Two thumbs for Mr Jones.

I had same problem with mine and dried it out like you did, but you have to stop that water from getting in there. I sanded the transducer area and coated it with thick coat of epoxy, been doin good ever since

Re: Motorguide comes on by itself. (Philandlil)

I had the same thing happen, it threw the boat into a side spin and tossed me out, dont know what would have happened if I hadnt had some one on the boat with me as I didnt have a vest on. They were still new and denied having problems even though I knew many people that had the problem also. I had the lower replaced with a regular. Very porr design and dangerous as well.
