Are you switching the leads from the TM that you are using?

Regardless, running a 12/24 on 12V is a waste of effort unless the lowest speed on 24 is too fast. There is really nothing to gain from it unless you just want to run on a single battery.

If the plug is set for a 12/24. I don't understand what your meaning by switching. If your set up for 24 then all the switching is done at the foot peddle ?

Mine is a 12/24 with a switch on the side of the foot peddle. One side stopped working once. I started at the battery checking connections. I found one of the TM wires had come uncrimped/connected from one of the (2) 50amp fuses. I fixed that and cleaned all 4 while I was there.

Now the TM on 5 high will throw me out of the boat if motor is pointed to the side and I'm not ready !

yes mine has a switch also at the pedal 12v off 24v . currently Ihave 2 batts for the tm wired for 24v and that is were the switch possition is . If I move the switch to 12v and take the leads off from both batts and hook to just one batt +to _ it will not work .I'm not sure were or if i have any fuses on mine .My tm plugs into the a socket on the deck and there are to leads that go from the socket to the batts + and _ Idon't now

To run 12/24 you have to have three wires to the trolling motor. One ground, one 12V positive, and one 24V positive. The jumper can either be at the battery or in the plug. Once it goes into the 12/24 switch, the output from that switch is the same for either 12 or 24V. If you only have one set of leads going to the trolling motor and you're wanting to connect them at the battery to get 12V, you will simply move the positive lead from the 24V post to the positive post of the battery that carries the ground, but you will keep the switch on 24 since the 12V side is not connected to any wire.
