    Question on Fuel Consumption

This may be the wrong forum but i have a 90 model 178 pro sport. Was wondering what type of fuel economy i could expect to get from a 90 merc 150 xr4. The motor runs great no problems. The boats great too just trying to figure out the hack wiring job from previous owner as of last night my gauges are all working again like they should. I also appreciate the comments from you guys on the boat from the pics i posted.

Just a guess, but I'd say 2 to 3 MPG

That's probably WOT. Outboards are not noted for fuel economy, but just backing off to 4000-4500 rpm goes a long ways.

I would agree with DJ. Even new outboards dont get that great of mileage and that old three carb job you have is gonna suck it down. It is what it is. YOu have to pay if you wanna play.

i don't ever calculate mileage, your motor is a big 150 @2.4 liters and a 1.78 gear ratio,,and most xr4's dyno @175-180hp out of the box,but my xr4 only uses 10-12 gals in a 12 hour day on my 87 ricky green, that's airing it out a few times, backing off to 3500-4k cruising and alot of putting 1-1.5k from spot to spot.
