    Costa 400g or 580p

I've had the 580p and loved them. Lost them in the river. Supposedly the amber lenses were to be available for 2012 in 580g in the brine frames but aren't. My options are 400g and 580p. Anyone have any experience with both and can summarize them for me?

You can get the green mirror in 580G. The green mirror is an amber lens. If you liked the amber in 580p then you will love the green mirror in 580g. Contact the Tackle Trap and they will hook you up with a great deal. They have the best price hands down. They are a board sponsor too.

I've tried on the green mirror....but they were.....green. I liked the clarity and brightness aspect of the amber lens. Am I missing something with them?

Yes. When you look through the lens it is not green. It is amber. The lens itself is actually an amber and copper lens mix. Ask if you can try on a pair and take them outside on a sunny day. You will see what I'm talking about. Then contact the Tackle Trap.

You match the mirror color to the water color.....inland lakes are normally green, therefore you want the green mirror when fishing those waters.....oceans are nomally blue, so you use the blue mirror when fishing those waters.

The 400g lenses are glass and slightly heavier then the 580p lenses that are polycarbonate but the 400g lenses are much clearer and more scratch resistant.

I've got a pair of Brines with 580g in the silver mirror. It's an amber based lens and IMO is great all-around pair of glasses. I think the Costa site markets them as best used in low light sight fishing conditions, but I've not had any problems with them on bright sunny days.

The silver mirrors are a very good choice as well but they are a copper based lens, not an amber.

    Re: Costa 400g or 580p (jp71291)

Glass lenses are much much more scratch resistant than polycarbonate lenses and the optical clarity of glass is better also. As already mentioned, the tradeoff is weight - the polycarbonate lens will be lighter. I'm not prone to lose my sunglasses but I'm very rough on them so I have found glass lenses to be the best option for me. Hope this helps...

    Re: Costa 400g or 580p (e30racer)

Thanks for the replies guys. I understand the weight differences, etc. Was just trying to see if the 400g would be as good as the 580p, since the glass is supposed to be clearer, but the 580 is a superior lens, but polycarbonate.

Lots of great info, but I'm not sure if I'm any less confused than when I first started reading it. What's the bottom line on glass versus polycarbonate?
What's the difference between the 580g versus 580p?

A polycarbontate lense will never be superior to a glass lense as far as clarity IMO. I cant even wear polycarbonate lenses the make me dizzy.

Re: Costa 400g or 580p (Chad)

I have 2 pair of costa's with the 400G lens and am very happy with them. I have a pair with smoke grey lens and just got a pair of green mirror and love them both. I just cannot see the price upgrade for the 580 lens but I am not on the water 4 days a week either.

Costa Del Mar has different types of dealers. They only let so many dealers be online dealers with a mound of paperwork. The Tackle Trap is not a online dealer. If you can look on Costas website and figure out what you want, then call me or IM me for a price.

Re: Costa 400g or 580p (HookedonBass)

Glass lens will be a bit heavier but more scratch resistant. Poly will be a bit lighter than glass, but more susceptible to scratches.

    580 is Costa's top of the line lens. G = glass, P = poly
