    Talon vs. Power Pole

I am leaning towards the Talon due to no hydraulic pump to be installed inside the boat (very little room). Please offer your opinion or the pros and cons of these two units.

My vote is with the Talon for the reasons you mentioned and now they have an mount that lets you "fold" them down to a horizontal position to get into low clearance places w/o deploying the spike... like under a low bridge branch or just into the garage, etc. Also, consider how much easier it is to install. About an hour total doing it yourself.

I chose power poles because 2 Talon's that I know of are noisy. We will see if I made the right decision.

You will drive yourself crazy trying to decide. Click on the search button and there are lots of threads, about power pole vs Talon. I read every one of them and finally decided on the power poles. Good Luck

Re: Talon vs. Power Pole (Eddie B)

I look at it like this, and it may not be right but it makes sense to me.....

Most things out in the real world that are mechanical and have to stand up to a lot of abuse are hydrolic ie: heavy equipment, tractors/farm machinery, factory machinery etc. etc.

If I was buying.... power pole 100%

On that same thought process, you can lower the power pole some without the spike being below the boat with just a touch of a button versus having to lean out over the back of the boat to push the release button on the Talon bracket. If a wake hits you just right, I'd be worried about taking a nose dive off the back of the boat. This is a picture Doug posted and you can see it's a bit of a reach to hit the button.

Thats one of the several times Ive read/heard about guys switching from Talon to Power Pole Mark. I think he says why on page 2. Im a minn kota fan, but would not go with a talon over a PP given the option.

I picked pp. When its down, all of it is down. Fast and quiet. Slimmer design (less wind resistance and strain on mount). Subjective but I think they look better.

One of the things I like is simple to install and easy to remove. You can switch boats quickly if you have two boats or you and a buddy can share. With the continued rise in price of fuel if your fishing offshore that day. In a few minutes you can have them off and saving fuel! You'll gain 3-5 Mph not having either Shallow Water Anchors in the air. Talon you have the opportunity to easily install and remove as needed. The Talons have been flawless for me. Spike Drives Straight and has more standard features...and you can use with the Humminbird 360 Imaging Unit when it starts shipping soon!

Re: Talon vs. Power Pole (oiltech09)

I chose the Talon because it's totally electric. No pumps or valves. When it comes to low clearance, it is only a few inches higher than the cowling on my Yamaha 225 HPDI when it's trimmed up as when going under a bridge or such.have room to back into the garage. I think it will be fine, if not I will mount the bracket to fold down. I also like the fact that the spike deploys close to the boat, I have to believe it will hold better because of that. I have had to rebuild my hydraulic steering piston and don't need similar issues on an anchor. My trolling motor has been flawless. I do think it boils down to preference, I just try and base my decisions on function, not hype by the pro's, most of them are paid to use what they put on thier boat.
