sincere question about gov shut down and defunding obamacare

I can't seem to figure this out...these may be a silly questions.
What does the government shutting down have anything to do with funding or defunding obamacare?
Why is it either shut down or defund?
If the republicans say either defund o-care or we shut down the gov, how can they do that?
I don't get any of it.

They are attaching defunding obamacare the bill to raise the debt ceiling. Obama and the democrats arent budging saying they will shut down the government if they can't raise the debt limit without defunding obamacare and the republicans are saying they wont raise the debt ceiling without defunding obamacare or at least delaying it for a year. Hopefully the republicans will stand strong and not give in.

My understanding is because the ACA law is mandatory spending, so has to be included in the budget. I thought the debt ceiling was a separate battle

First off that's not how it works. The Republicans have proposed keeping the government open every time they have proposed a government spending bill. Unfortunately Obamacare is funded by the government so it has to be factored into the whole plan. Theres a lot that starts on Oct 1 because it's the first day of the fiscal year when it comes to government spending. I'm curious to see what happens tomorrow because it will make a difference in whether I go to work or not.

I don't believe this is about the debt ceiling. That comes up in a couple weeks. This is about approving a budget for the next Fiscal Year which starts 10/1. The Dems want the new budget to include funding Obama Car, the Repubs, or most of them anyway, will not agree to funding Obama care in the new budget. Now remember that the house of representatives is controlled by Repubs and the Senate is controlled by Dems.

The Rep controlled house sends a budget to the Demo controlled Senate that does not include funding for Obama care and the Demo controlled Senate strips out the part about de-funding obama care and sends the budget back to the Repub controlled House................... And as they say..the merry go round continues.

That about the best explanation I can come up with but I believe it to be basically true, based on what I have read and heard.

The liberals are stubborn on all or nothing funding and the conservatives are stubborn on funding everything but o-care

Many big companies received a one year extension on the ACA. The people writing the budget are exempt from the ACA period (why?). The private business owners that ultimatly pay the bulk in taxes (it's impossible for a government worker to pay enough in taxes to pay their salary) get a one year break while the people they are paying get a life time exemption.

These people are slowly realizing through mandated briefings how much this law is going to cost them. You can bet there is HUGE pressure on both sides not to fund the ACA. The only reason to fund it at this point is party line pressure. Americans overwhelmingly have spoken after finding the details and don't want it. It's already way over budget. Students are paying with college loans and higher tuition, parents are paying in higher product prices being passed along, employees hours are being cut. No one knows if this is warranted, they had to sign it to see what was in it. Now they need to pre-load more money. People are not beating down the door to buy this insurance.

It's a TAX, enforced by the IRS. The only way to get rid of a TAX is to de-fund it. That's my understanding of why they are trying to defund it using the same legal checks and balances the Dems got it passed through the Supreme Court.

"The entire economy is at stake because of shutdown" When was the last time the government shut down and didn't go back after people had days off and make up the pay? Plenty on this page alone taking 100% cuts with ZERO chance of going back. They will hammer something out. Until then I am being told to report to the base in the AM. You all have a good evening.

You can watch the circus live on CSPAN2 if you have it. It's pretty comical. The dems are speaking now.

This fight is over the Continuing Resolution to fund the government. There has not been a budget passed since Obama took office. Several days ago the House sent a bill over that included a provision to defund Obamacare. To force the issue Ted Cruz spent 21 hours flapping his gums. A valiant effort but to no avail because half his fellow Repubs torpedoed him. Dirty little Harry stripped the defunding language out and sent it back to the House who then put in language to delay the individual mandate and reccend the exemptions given to Congress and their staff. It went back to the Senate and again down party lines it was killed. ONe more time it was sent to the House "cleansed" and the House reinstalled the removal of all exemptions.

At this time I have no idea where the idiots are on coming to a resolution. One side is bound and determined to include some type of alteration to Obamacare and the other side in not willing to compromise in any way shape or form.

I think they should all be fired, quartered, and maybe have a hot poker up the wahoo.

Where is Jake Grey to tell us how wonderful and great this plan is? I have noticed he switched his avatar from the great president to something else lately? Maybe he can educate us on how great this is?

I really think the republicans are dead wrong on this one. They should fully fund obamacare, cancel every exemption, implement it fully on 01/01/14 and watch it fail. It can't work and it won't, it's that simple; if they try and block any portion of it they will get the blame when the inevitable failure occurs.
