    BASSMASTER classic 2014 (guntersville)

Thinking of going to the classic next year. this may be the closest it ever gets to me. 2 questions

    1) recommended places to stay if I decide to follow the guys on the water and take the boat? Something close to the take off. I cant find any mention of where that will be.

    2) recommended places to stay by the expo if I dont take the boat

Sheraton in downtown Birmingham if you want to stay close to the expo. Hampton Inn in Guntersville if you bring the boat.

I'll be there....if they launch from the state park, I recommend the Best Western, right on the lake with ramp and docks. If you would rather stay close to the expo then I'm lost on that one. If ya want to stay at the BW confirm EARLY!!!
Great ground floor accomodations but they go quick.....

still looking. i cant find it listed anywhere

i found one article that says marshall county

BASS announced Thursday that it will return to Guntersville Lake for the famed Bassmaster Classic in February 2014.But there is a twist.
The daily weigh-ins and the Bassmaster Classic Outdoors Expo will be held in Birmingham at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex.
That means that anglers will drive an hour and a half every day from the launch site in Marshall County, back to Birmingham, with their fish in livewells, for the weigh-ins. If anglers decide to fish the north end of Guntersville, they will be a full two and a half hours away from the weigh-in site.
    also found this

He said that the morning take-offs for the event will be at the City Docks next to the south end of the U.S. 431 bridge, which has space to accommodate several thousand spectators.

I went this year to Grand. My 1st classic. It was an hour plus drive from the expo to the lake, BUT you gotta do both. The experience of following the guys on the lake was awesome. But the expo was just as awesome. I would never go again without doing both. I feel like you would miss out on the total experience.

Call Kay Donaldson @ (256) 350-3500, as she's the Mountain Lakes Tourism Association's full time fishing tournament coordinator. She's also responsible for the Alabama Bass Trail. Kay will know the details.
    They're open 8:30-5:00 CDT.

Birmingham's convention center has fabulous facilities, but it's 70 miles away on 2 lane roads--90 miles by interstate. It's a shame they're not going to weigh in at Huntsville's Von Braun Center 40 miles away.

The Best Western (ex Holiday Inn) and the Hampton Inn both have boat docks. And the Lake Guntersville State Park has finally finished reconditioning all their facilities. It's pretty cold that time of the year, however.

go to the expo, watch the weigh in then watch the pros fish on the TV show.....spectator boats are turning the classic into a joke....if you're close enough to see anything, you're affecting their fishing...

It would be cool to watch on the water but I agree I think it would be a pain, let them fish. I could see if it was family or best friend or something but 100 guys you do not know following you around.....

Spectators on G'ville....heck no. There will be some that see the pros catch a fish and pull right next to them and start fishing with them or a ski boat drive right through their fishing area like what happened to me saturday. Older guy with his wife and daughter comes bogging down the area, i'm fishing a ledge off a flat (3' drop to 20') he's in the 5' area. I throw my hands up and mention politely "I'm fishing here", he replies "It's 3' over there", i reply "I know, the channel is behind me". lol. He proceedes to zig zag between 3 others fishing instead of turing out to the channel. ok, rant over.

But if the FLW was fishing for $300K on Lake Lanier, they really would prefer to be left alone. It's hard enough that the Classic fishermen are usually freezing their tails off that early in the year, but dealing with fishing stategy on a strange lake has to be a pressure on the anglers. And they're just getting back to fishing after a long winter--getting back into the swing of things.

FLW guys were fishing for $500,00.00. But I'm in the 'leave them alone and watch them on TV' group. When I'm fishing a tournament, I would not want a bunch of boats hovering around (Never had that problem). I live in N. Alabama and I will watch on TV. Let them do their job and they really do it better with less pressure. 20+ boats crowded around them is pressure!

The only time FLW has fished Lanier they were fishing for over $500k both times..

My guess is those FLW pro were told or are smart enough not to tell their limited fan base to get away from them. I find it hard to believe a guy fishing for half a million wanted you to get closer! Someone fishing for a crappy trophy would never say come closer.

You know KVD just loves Lake Guntersville. He also has a good friend that runs a big catfish restaurant in Guntersville, and he's quick to to visit whenever going south. I can imagine he's glad the Classic will be on this premier fishery.
