    The show "Bottom feeders"

Anyone watch this show? I have only caught one episode so far...Who buys all these carp and drum from them?? Guess it is odd to me as they only see farm raised trout and catfish here as far as fresh water fish

Also seems like they would be out of fish soon hitting 15k pounds + in freshwater but it says these guys have done it for generations

I know a couple of guys who do the carp bowfishing tournament thing, and all of the fish are sold to a fertilizer processor. The amount that a typical tournament generates is amazing.

Rough fish also end up in pet and livestock food additives.

Not sure on the drum, but there was a recent article posted in the KY Forum regarding the asian carp. Apparently they are good eating and used in fish meal. Asian Carp Article in Herald Leader

A lot are processed and shipped to China. In 2011 the Illinois DNR planned to process tons of the fish and have them made into fish sticks or the can sized equivalent of tuna and give them to the poor.

Or they just leave them on shore to stink up the place.

I've hears smoked carp is really good but will never eat it. I have a smoker, can easily get a big carp, but there is no way it's going to happen. They are fun on a fly rod or a bow though.

smoked carp is tasty, had it from time to time when I was a kid.

I hear tell the asian carp is a nice firm fleshed fish that tastes as good as catfish.

That'd be a great title for a show like that.

I've ate many of them growing up.We were poor when I grew up & I put a many from 5 to 30Lbers. in the deepfreeze. What some call a mud vein is simply a blood vessel to oxygenate their bodys because they grow so fast just like a Stripers red meat. Cut the red meat out & soak them in saltwater over night & they're as good as any freshwater fish. Big white flaky meat with a good texture. I'll eat Carp any chance I get if they're fixed right. I'd Rather have it than Cat Fish myself & never understood the stigma that went with them. I knew plenty of folks when I was growing up that would eat Sucker, but wouldn't eat Carp.

nothing wrong with deep fried carp there are a few places around the mid west, Omaha has several. smoked carp is really good , cold beer and smoked carp was a party on the river when we were young, we netted on the Missouri for years and sold them fresh and made good cash money, it's not hard to sell them if you know where to go. Asian carp is good eating and a lucrative business out east, you can even go out on boats and hit them with ball bats just wear protective gear because they can knock you out if they hit you. i would like to shotgun them off the back of a boat but don't know how the DNR would see that.....

I custom harvested catfish for eight years. Most " fingerling " farmers kept grass carp in their ponds to keep algae and grass under control. Several times a year we would seine grass carp to be hauled to Canada. What was strange , was that the carp brought $2:50/lb cash money while catfish were only bringing 75cents/pound. The buyer said the carp were going to Asians in Canada.
