Most thieves are un armed and want to avoid a confrontation. So, if you see someone carrying your chainsaw off and you run out armed and confront him and then he starts to fight and you kill him, you have escalated the situation and in MOST STATES, you would be held accountable. I am out of this one,,,too many gun toting bad azzes !

Hell no, I'm not saying it's OK. Was hoping my comment would cause the OP to think through the consequences of actually killing someone who might be stealing some of his stuff at the ramp.

The initial start of this thread was one of the best and rational explanations I have seen articulated. I have had my concealed carry permit since I was old enough to have one and for years I had never carried on the boat.....until a few years ago. In one summer I had 3 people threaten to shoot me and another threaten to kick my ass. At that point, I decided that I would take it on the water as well. Again, better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. So to answer the question directly, I carry because the United States Constitution says that along w/ being able to pray, speak and pursue happiness.....it is my right to carry a gun should I choose to.

I am 100% pro-gun and pro-carry but I do have to ask... how did you get threatened so much?

I have a permit and carry a firearm. If any of you guys ever drink you should never cary your weapon. Even if it is in your truck or boat that you are in and you are inside. In AR if the guy in the car with you is drunk and you get stopped , you loose your weapon and permit. I was shot back about 30 years ago by a friend who was drinking. I was too but I do not get that wild when i drink. Some people do and do not know they do. Be careful.

Pro-Hunt, that is a very good question. Once was a crazy guy who did not want me within 50' of his dock.....not flipping his dock, 50' from his dock, and he threatened to call the cops and I asked him to as he was violating my rights and harassing sportsman engaged in lawful pursuit of enjoying the outdoors is a punishable offense. Once was asking a guy who was cussing a blue streak to tone it down some at the ramp while a single mom and her 2 kids were bank fishing......after I offered to help him get his boat on the trailer. And lastly was a resident guy who chose to throw a stick at my truck while I was driving down the access rd to the ramp. Now with all of that said, I have chalked it up to Karma, because in 30+ years of fishing I have only had 2 other minor disputes on the water and those 3 I just described all happened within 30 days.....go figure.
