    CCW Springfield Armory XD-S vs XD-M subcompact?

    The other day a buddy of mine showed me his brand new XD-S .45 and immediately I fell in lust! It seems to be the perfect size for CCW due to the narrow slide width (just .9"). The only thing I don't like is that it currently is only available in .45 and I would prefer a .40 or 9mm. The XD-M subcompact comes in all three calibers but I can't find the slide width on the specs pages. It sounds like they are all double stack mags which will obviously make the grip wider and more difficult to conceal.
    Currently I have a Bersa Thunder .380 and a Sig Sauer P239 in 9mm. I usually carry the .380 because it is lighter, smaller, thinner and more easily concealed.

    Anybody have these models or have you compared them for yourself yet?

    The xdm is a double stack mag. The xds is the way to go for cc. But the grip is so short on the xds it wouldnt be fun to shoot. So it's pretty much ONLY for CC.

    For concealing I would go with the xds, if you can't find d the width of the slide on the sub I can get it tomorrow

    At one time I had a Detonics .45 that was small, made of steel, and it was a handful. Don't think I'd want to do a lot of shooting with one that size with a poly frame. If you want a 9mm, you might want to look at the S&W Shield or perhaps the Kahr CW9.

    The beauty of the XDS is that it is in 45, there are plenty of sub 9s out there, the closest match to the XDS in 9 or 40 would be the Walther PPS, their designs are ridiculously similar inside and out. The XDS is very comfortable to shoot with a standard mag and crazy accurate, even compared to full size poly's. There is a reason Springfield still cant meet the demand for them. Should you have an issue with grip size (which is doubtful) an extended mag is available. Reliability on either is second to none.

    I see SA coming out with a single stack .40 before long but, just because so many people already own .40's and dont want 6 different calibers of ammo lying around. There are plenty of thin 9mm around for cc so i doubt SA will do it in a 9.

    I've been eyeing the XDS simply for the reason that it is a concealable .45... gotta love it!!!!!

    i just went to the range yest. with my xds....for a small gun it is pretty accurate and recoil was not bad....i shot 45 rounds at a 5" circle....every shot was inside at 12yds...i do reccomend this gun for a carry gun

    The slide on my XDM 40 cal measures 1" thats with a tape, I could go out and get my calipers but it wont be much more than that.

    No, but I will have to. I think I'd rather have a .40. Also that PPS sounded intersting too.

    I'm hopefully heading out today or tomorrow to compare these to the other guns that were mentioned. I'm really liking the bi-tone XD-M and XD-S look though.

    Looked at a bunch of guns today. The XD-S is my favorite due to the slim frame. Didn't buy it...yet. The PPS was very nice except for the mag release which is attached to the trigger guard. Neither store had the Shield in stock so I didn't get to see that one. I was surprised how many models of the XD that SA makes. Anyways I looked at a few different models but didn't like the width of them.
