The NFLPA has sent a letter to the NFL league office threatening to nullify the CBA due to unsafe working conditions if the real refs are not brought back. Probably a long shot they would actually attempt to go through with it but it does show that the players are fed up with the replacements.

Why is the players union crossing a picket line anyway?

Other than the obvious that they are fed up with the horrible officiating they are probably pissed at the hypocritical stance of the NFL. On one hand they are handing out fines left and right for plays that are considered dirty in the name of player safety while in the other they are putting players in danger in the name of saving a few bucks instead of paying the refs.

God forbid you pay qualified people what they're worth. If being an NFL team owner is such a financial hardship, sell the stupid team and go open clothing and sneaker factories in the third world, where you'll enjoy an endless supply of cheap, compliant labor and not have to worry about pesky union officials and stuff like that.

Great idea ! Then they could manufacture "Officially Licensed NFL Team Apparel" and sell it to fans for ridiculous prices. You don't want to be caught dead wearing unofficial NFL gear ...

The way I understand it the refs are not holding out for a raise. The NFL is trying to give them a big paycut and take a lot of their benefits, while also requiring them to be full time and not able to have another job in the offseason.

That is unbelievable. You just thought you had it seen it all. So stupid. The owners are probably holding out for 2 million divided by 30. 1 stupid or bad call/mistake like this could cost your team a win and a playoff spot costing that 1 owner millions. Stupid business decision by supposedly very smart business people. Win the battle and lose the war

I included that under benefits. But yeah the NFL wants to take the pensions of the referees.

Yeah, when it comes to millionaires playing ball. When it comes to regular working guys, unions still suck

Cat you need to go back and look at the details. You are just about backwards on everything you stated.

    Don't know

They sometimes do it to mark a receiver as ineligible if they stepped out of bounds. According to Yahoo, thats why it was done in this case but I can't find any video that supports that Ogletree stepped out...

Blaming this on a ref being a replacement is stretching it- remember this incident? I still see all the refs (regulars ones from last year) throwing flags AT players, thus risking more freak injuries.

An errant penalty flag nearly blinded him in one eye and - 06.09.03 - SI Vault
