    how much poly flake?

    i want to regel my 201pro xl dc stratos. my plan is to flake the sides and top. how much flake is this going to take . it is sold by the 8 oz. bag for 10.99 at greatlakesskipper.com. should i buy a bag and some cheap clear and do a sample i have no idea by looking at the flake that is on the boat it seems like it would take many, many bags! anybody please chime in

    Post some pics of what your starting point is. Are you changing color? Do you have a flake gun?
    You will need at least 1 pound of flake for the cap.
    Minicraft sells it by the pound.

    If you will also spray a backup you want have to spray a 100% on the flake

    yes i kind of want to change color, but i am a bit apprehensive . one side is badly stress cracked i think it was stored outside and the sun played a role (came from florida) merc280 what is a backup? the pictures are on the thread 93 stratos rebuild. thanks for the replies, greatly appreciated

    There are a LOT of variables in spraying polyflake.

    Can be sprayed wet, as in mixed with clear gel and sprayed thru a larger nozzle than standard gel spraying.

    Can be sprayed dry, on top of a ( backup ) backing color ( usually black ) using an artist spray gun, then covered with clear gelcoat.

    How much flake you use is hard to say without knowing what the flake
    pattern/thickness/density you want in the finished look.

    The key , as with all gelcoating is the prep work of the original gel on the hull.
