    Ipad in the Console

Has anyone done this or seen a setup with a Ipad in the dash. I saw a video on youtube where a guy mentioned it and it sounds pretty sweet with Google Earth. Just wondering.

You need an Internet connection for google earth to work. Not sure that can happen on most lakes.

If your cell phone can do WiFi hott spots that is all you would need. As long as you had cell service would be the issue.

this is a big issue on most lakes though.

I'm still curious as to why the gps manufacturer's have not implemented wi-fi in the units yet.

Google has a big market to take advantage of IMO

Of course I would need the 3G or 4G version and I understand it may not work everywhere, but this would be pretty sweet. I have seen the fully water proof cases and even the mounts to make it happen, I really just wanted to hear from someone who is currently using it. I guess I may just start taking my wife's IPAD out and try it out in a couple of different locations.

I would agree, use it on the lakes you would fish, with the kids now days they can't function with out their toys. Mine go fishing with me but when the fishing is slow they get bored and start playing their ipod touch. I turn on the WiFi hot spot and they are good to go for a few more hours. Like stated previously you will need to be in 3g or better in order for it to work. This is an issue for some of the lakes in my area, not all over but just about 1/3 of the lake it is an issue.
